Abstract

This study surveyed new optometrists in Canada who graduated between 2013 and 2024 to gain insight into their career experiences, expectations, and goals. 431 respondents shared information on their income, practice modality, overall job satisfaction and future goals. The national average income was $170,881. The average debt of a Canadian graduate was $92,464 and for an American graduate was $238,393. Over 92% of new graduates are members of their association. The majority of new graduates report satisfaction with their work/life balance in optometry.
